Obituary of Richard L Hauf

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Louis Hauf, of Catonsville, MD, passed away on January 21, 2023, peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81.  Richard was a devoted and loving husband to his beautiful bride of 59 years, Catherine “Cookie” Hauf, a loving father to his three children Kelly Guest and her husband Paul, Kathy Majerowicz and her husband Brian and Richard J. Hauf and his wife Celeste, and beloved Pop-pop to 17 grandchildren.

Richard was a member of the Army National Guard before beginning his 24-year career with the Baltimore County Police Department.  He served as a Captain in charge of the Wilkins Precinct before moving to headquarters in Towson.  Richard was promoted to Major in charge of Wilkens, Woodlawn, and Garrison precincts.  Upon his retirement, Richard worked briefly as head of security at Catonsville Community College before starting his second career and dream job: helping the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia as head of facilities at Mount de Sales Academy, a position he held for over 25 years.  Teaching his family about their faith and living his life in service to God were always his top priority.  His career choices demonstrate how to serve. His marriage teaches others how to love selflessly and to live our vocation fully. His family was most important to him, which he saw as the fullness of God’s blessings. He was not much on saying I love you, but he never had to. He lived his love in ways that left words unnecessary.

Richard is also survived by his siblings Helen and Jospeh Stepanek, Dorothy and Robert Leister, Robert Hauf, and Mary Keough.  He was pre-deceased by his siblings Dolores Ryan, Marty Hauf, sister-in-law Barbara Hauf and brother-in-law Michael Keough.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 25 from 2- 4pm and again from 6-8pm at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, MD.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am, Thursday, January 26 at St. Agnes Church, 5422 Old Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD.  Interment in Loudon Park Cemetery.  For those desiring, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Mount de Sales Academy (Fine Arts Building Fund) 700 Academy Road, Catonsville, MD 21228 or The Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia 801 Dominican Dr. Nashville, TN 37228.
