Obituary
Andrea Lois Lay, affectionately known as “Andi”, was born March 1, 1956, to the late Lewis and Thelma Walker Lay in Baltimore MD. She went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2022, at the age of 66.
Andrea graduated from Eastern High School in 1974 with a 4.0 GPA, and she graduated from BCCC with a degree in Computer Science with a 4.0 GPA.
Andrea received the Lord as her personal Savior as a young adult in 1974 after reading the Romans Road to Salvation—i.e., Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9-10. One of her favorite scriptures was II Timothy 4:17—”But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength.”
Andrea sang with the Gideon Singers, Ebenezer MLK Choir in Atlanta Georgia, Mt. Pleasant Church and Ministries Choir and Praise Team, and the Victory Ensemble. She had a melodious alto voice.
Andrea used her gift of administration while a member of Mt Pleasant — created the logo for the school and helped with conferences, and produced flyers. She also used her gift administration at Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church —maintained church activities/room scheduling in Excel, maintained forms, scheduled conference calls, entered/maintained new members in data base, monitored new members, prepared and laminated signs, prepared Google forms and assisted with registration. Andrea was very creative, loved ceramics, made jewelry, loved crocheting and knitting.
Andrea was employed at BCCC for 30+ years as a Systems Analyst, and she taught Computer Programming (COBOL) courses at BCCC. She was employed at Burroughs Corporation while she lived in Stone Mountain, Georgia with her former husband, James T Gough (from 1983-1987). Andrea retired in 2011 after 30+ years of doing what she loved at BCCC.
Andrea loved/encouraged everyone she knew especially her sister, Marsha Williams/brother-in-law, Pastor Robert Williams, her nephews/nieces, Helen Gaddy, Cheryl Johnson, Monica Wormley, Armoni, her Goddaughter, and her stepson, James T. Gough, jr.
Loving memories will be cherished by: her sister, Marsha Williams and brother-in-law, Pastor Robert Williams; her brother, Larry Lay and sister-in-law, Gloria Lay, her brother, Gary Lay, her brother, Wayne Lay, and sister-in-law, Joyce Lay, Uncle Wilbert Walker, Uncle James Walker, Uncle Moses Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
