Obituary of Michael William Steiner

Michael “Mike” William Steiner, Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2022. Mike was born on August 21, 1924, to the late Howard and Mary Steiner.   Mike was raised by his stepdad, Joseph Jirsa and his mom Mary.

Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1944. He was a welder by nature and went on to work with the Mass Transit Administration as a bus mechanic and had also worked in the boiler room for 45 years, before he retired. After retiring he worked part-time in the MTA’s money room, and he loved counting the money.  Mike enjoyed working on cars, going on family vacations to Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, and family day trips to Thurmont. He enjoyed wood working projects and made anything from lawn items, to mailboxes, to hanging house key holders. Additionally, he loved to sing and dance and could often be heard whistling all kinds of tunes.

Mike met and married Bernice Steiner (Kwedar) and was married for a total of 67 years before she passed away.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Barbara J. Wise (Steiner); granddaughter, Kellie J. Sottasante (Fleischer)(White) and her husband, Joseph A. Sottasante; great-granddaughters: Amanda N. Fleischer and Amber N Recker; great grandsons: Joseph M. Fleischer and Brett L. Zimmerman; great-great-grandson: Cooper Wingfield; and Shannon’s fiancé Wayne Zimmerman.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Steiner; his son in law, Larry C. White; his granddaughter, Shannon L. Recker; his granddaughter Kellie’s late husband Jan-Marc L. Fleischer; his brothers: Edward and William; sister: Evelyn; and his parents, Howard and Mary.

Funeral services will be held at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland, 21229, on Monday, March 28, 2022. A visitation is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with buriel immediately following at Loudon Park Cemetery.
