Obituary of Carol Lyn Davis

Obituary Carol Lyn Davis, beloved wife, mother, friend, and faithful steward of the earth and nature, 71, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away at 9:37 AM on January 23, 2021, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, after a month long final struggle to keep living. On January 9, 2021, she asked her nurse to call her husband and son and wish them goodnight. “I want to come home”, she expressed. She was determined to be well as soon as she could. Just a few short days before her hospitalization, she was working to improve her condition and get stronger, pedaling on her stationary bicycle and communicating positivity to her loved ones. Pneumonia, heart and lung weakness, complications from Multiple Sclerosis, and some medical treatment were not kind to her and contributed to her passing, yet she did not lose a battle to them. She conquered. Her light shines on and memory of her lives on. Carol was the daughter of Robert Mitchell and Elnora Sorg, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Carol was born at 9:25 PM at Corry Memorial Hospital in Corry, Pennsylvania on April 6, 1949. As a child, she lived in Pennsylvania, California, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. She graduated from Suitland High School, Suitland, Maryland in 1967. In her younger years, she worked in retail at several stores in the DC metropolitan area, including The Wig Boutique, a pharmacy and lunch counter called Kay Cee Drug, and an upscale shoe store called I. Miller. She worked a short time as a bartender at Senate Inn in Coral Hills. She studied at Bladensburg Barbering School, from which she graduated and became a professional barber and men’s hairstylist, where she worked at Sirs, which became Sirs and Hers in College Park, and later worked from home as a barber. Carol lives on in the minds, hearts, and souls of those who grieve her passing. Family and friends remember her love of her family, her smile, her being a true friend, her supportive and loving character, her listening ear, her generosity, her sense of humor, her love of dance and music, and her love of animals and nature. Carol expressed her artistic creativity in hair styling, fashion, writing, fabricating stained glass, dance, cooking, gardening, and landscape design at her home. She had a limitless range of interests which motivated her to learn about other people, other cultures, how people lived throughout history, and the life lessons which are shared by the legacies of those from the near and distant past. She enjoyed expanding her horizons and traveling in her mind through books. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ellie, her step father, David Spell, her aunt, Hazel Cole, and many friends whose lives she touched over the decades. She says a temporary farewell to her husband of 41 years, David Davis, and son Max Davis, both of Silver Spring; her brother, Chuck Wentz, of Waldorf and his wife, Karen and son, Charles; her aunt, Gina Kraft and cousins, Eddie Kraft and Judy Flaherty, of Pittsburgh; along with friends who are close to her like siblings with whom she has known for over 60 years.
